Instructor-Led CIMCE Courses

The following courses are offered throughout the year to interpreters of all languages on an as needed basis. I can either divide the 3 hour course into two sessions of one and a half hours each during the lunch hour, or I can do a three hour session in the late afternoon, or on the weekend. I will come to the location of the event, be it at the interpreter waiting area (if approved), an interpreter’s home, or any other facility. If the course is offered in two parts, the certificate of completion will be issued after part two. If the event takes place in someone’s home, the interpreter providing the home and organizing the event will not pay for the course.

The minimum attendee requirement will range between five and ten participants, if the event is taking place in the greater Los Angeles area. The agreed upon number will depend on whether we are doing two one and a half hour lunch time sessions, one three hour session, or two three hour sessions on a weekend day. Terms and conditions for requests in areas outside of Los Angeles County will be considered on an individual basis.

Creating a Defense

3 Instructor-led CIMCE Credits
$60.00

This three hour course examines the work done in preparation for trial in cases where there is no defense. We will explore the defendant’s journey behind bars as he or she struggles with how much to disclose, how many tests he or she is willing to take, and how much custody time he or she is willing to accept when negotiating a plea bargain.

We will read a scripted mock psychological evaluation where all class participants will take part in asking typical questions posed in psychological evaluations.

We will explore the fundamentals of polygraph tests, assess the dangers of interpreting during a polygraph test, and review typical waivers and instructions used in polygraph test settings.

We will fine-tune our sight translation skills when dealing with Arrestee Questionnaires and Victim/ Witness Photographic Mug Shot Admonitions.
